Sakura {Cherry Blossom} at Nago Castle Park

I just love Cherry Blossom season in Okinawa.  This time of year you can find the most beautiful Cherry Blossom tress all over the island, but the best place to find them is up north near Nago.  Last year we visited Nakijin Castle and it was absolutely beautiful, but this year we decided to visit Nago Castle Park.

It has been unusually cold and rainy the last few weeks in Okinawa, but we headed up north to see the cherry blossoms before they were gone.  Okinawa is the first place in Japan for the cherry blossoms to bloom.  Each year there is a festival to mark the cherry blossom season.  Nago Castle Park sits high in the hills that overlook the East China Sea and gives some truly breathtaking views.  Amongst the forest, is the neatest suspension bridge I have seen in Okinawa!

Okinawa also has the most amazing playgrounds.  There was a small one at the park that the boys had the most fun at.  Bryson even went down the roller slide! Most of the Japanese playground also have small zip lines for the kids.  My boys love these the most!

Cherry Blossom season is a great time to see the The Japanese White Eye or “Mejiro” birds.  We had a hard time getting a good picture of the birds, but they were beautiful against the pink blossoms!

And finally after a fun day looking at all the beautiful cherry blossoms and playing at the park, we decided to stop in at our favorite Blue Seal up in Nago!

Even though it was a little cold and rainy, we still had the most amazing day!  If you are ever in Okinawa during cherry blossom season you have to head north to Nago!!
