This was the day I had been looking forward to the most on our trip! Before we even moved to Japan, I had found a picture of the snow monkeys on Pinterest. It was one of those pins that you save but never really think you will have the opportunity to see in real life. I can remember showing Brandon this picture of this little monkey and telling him I have to go see these. I did not see any baby monkeys holding snowballs, but it was still an amazing experience!
We were so excited for our road trip though Japan to see the snow monkeys. Snow Monkey Park is about a four hour drive from Tokyo. It was neat to see the beautiful country of Japan along the way. We got stuck in a little traffic leaving Tokyo so I was worried we would not make it in time before the park closed. We ended up getting there at the perfect time. The sun was just setting behind the mountains and it made the walk up to see the monkeys so magical and beautiful. It was like nothing I had ever experienced before. When Brandon took this picture the monkey decided to get out of the water just as he snapped the picture. It turned out to be a really funny picture!!
As you head down the mountain out of the park there is a little cafe that serves food and hot chocolate. We decided to get some hot chocolate and find a place for dinner. The hot chocolate was perfect after the cold walk through the mountains!
Just as we left the park we found The Farmhouse Restaurant. A lot of the restaurants in Japan are houses that also serve as a restaurant. I had the dumplings and the boys had pizza. The dumplings were some of the best I have ever had. I may have eaten a couple of plates of them.
After dreaming of going here for a long time, it turned out to be the most amazing trip. It’s one of those experiences that I will never forget! If you are ever in Japan, you have to go see the snow monkeys! After leaving the snow monkeys we headed to the ski resort in the Japanese Alps…
